Public Greens Carves Space Downtown: New Location is Open

The third location of Public Greens is now open and placed in the heart of downtown Indy. With two other establishments in Broad Ripple and the Fashion Mall, this one is tucked on the corner at 301 E. Market Street. This space is warm and full of energy–a perfect stop off the sidewalk. A restaurant group belonging to the Patachou Foundation, the sustainable initiative here is strong.

Founded by Martha Hoover, the Patachou Foundation serves healthy meals to at-risk and food insecure children. There are a variety of restaurants that have been founded under this initiative, with Public Greens serving as one that feeds the foundation. The Broad Ripple location donates 100% of proceeds to the Patachou Foundation, while the other two locations donate a significant amount.

The Broad Ripple location hosts a micro farm found right off of the Monon, which is used year round to supply the restaurant with food. Due to the seasonality of planting, the menu at Public Greens changes monthly and stays true to what is in season. The rest of the food is supplemented by local farmers and producers, sourced within 50 miles of Indy. “Martha wanted to create a restaurant group with locally grown and sourced food,” Marketing Director, Maddy Barnas explains. Sipping the freshly brewed coffee comprised of their very own syrups, she adds, “Our company as a whole supports more local family farms and producers than any other in the state.” Martha’s vision is certainly booming.

Sustainability is a huge pillar and focus for Public Greens, and their facility certainly showcases this. From equipment to energy, all products can be found to be sustainable. “I implemented the no plastic straws initiative, and now we have stainless steel ones to offer to guests,” Manager Lizzy Street adds. The Broad Ripple location is a Certified Level 1 Green Restaurant, with the other two constantly making green strides.
