This year, enjoy the holiday season with a real Christmas tree. Not only does buying a real tree helps support the local economy by supporting local farms, but it also helps to stabilize soil, protect water supplies, and provide refuge for wildlife. A study published in 2007 by scientists from Japan revealed that the smell of pine needles could battle anxiety, depression, and stress – which are all heightened during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
However, Hoosier families will have fewer options on where they plan to buy a live Christmas tree this year than in previous years. An Indiana University study shows that the number of Christmas tree farms in Indiana has dropped 40-percent since 2002. Don’t worry, there are still plenty of farms to find a beautiful and real Christmas tree.
