The State of Women-Owned Businesses Report stated Black women-owned businesses represented the highest growth rate of any group in the number of firms between 2014 and 2019. When it comes to the Health and Wellness industry, it’s overwhelmingly white, and Black women are often overlooked. Thanks to Suzette Sweatt, Certified Personal Trainer and Co-owner of SweattBoxx Wellness Center, she’s changing the faces industry. Read on to learn more about their business and how you can support it.
WHO AM I: I am a health and wellness coach Suzette aka Indy Bounce Lady, Co-owner of the SweattBoxx Wellness Center, and Kangoo Kids Discovery Instructor.
WHERE I LIVE: I live on Indy’s northeast side, and my business, SweattBoxx, is located on Indy’s eastside.
MY CAREER: My career is centered around wellness, with more than 30 years of customer service and MSM specialization in healthcare, with several certifications and licenses held for personal and group fitness training. I also have an internationally licensed Kangoo Jumps for Kangoo Dance, Power, Pro, and Kangoo kids program.
MY SIDE HUSTLE: I own Indiana’s first mobile bounce trailer (one of a kind) metallic bubblegum pink (the healthy kind); next up is my baby BeYOUtiful wellness skincare, that specifically targets aging, wrinkles, and under-eye care. In addition to being an Arbonne consultant who builds teams, a lover of beautiful holiday wellness boxes designed to reduce stress and create an atmosphere of relaxation, that is just a few of my side hustles.
WHAT ROLE WELLNESS PLAYS IN MY LIFE: Wellness is the core of my life. This means I seriously have claimed it as a lifestyle and hashtag, LOL. My home life, marriage, family, kids, and grandkids are all taught the importance of health and wellness and maintaining it throughout the years.
ADVICE FOR THOSE STARTING THEIR WELLNESS JOURNEY: Honestly, be patient as we didn’t arrive at a certain point overnight, yet we desire immediate and quick fix results like yesterday. Trust the process, remain consistent (don’t quit), and enjoy the journey of wellness because results are more lasting this way.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO TRY AND MAKE INDY A HEALTHIER PLACE: My motivation comes from seeing Indiana’s obesity ranking reduced among women, African -Americans, kids, and across the nation. We still come in as 25th unhealthiest state in the USA.
